Test the Representative

Verify that your representative responds correctly before letting real visitors use it.

This guide helps you confirm that your AI representative behaves correctly before real visitors rely on it.

Before making the assistant publicly available, you should review its responses and communication behaviour.


Why this step matters

The representative communicates on behalf of your business.

A short review allows you to:

  • confirm explanations are accurate
  • identify missing information
  • refine tone and communication style
  • prevent visitor confusion

Spending time here significantly reduces problems after launch.


Where to test

You can test the representative using:

  • a Share Link (recommended)
  • your website widget (if already installed)

A Share Link is usually best because it shows the same experience visitors will see without affecting your live site.


Step 1 — Start a conversation

Open the chat interface (Share Link or website widget) and begin a normal conversation.

Do not test it like a system.
Interact with it like a visitor.


Step 2 — Ask basic visitor questions

Start with the questions a first-time visitor would naturally ask.

Examples:

  • “What does this website offer?”
  • “Who is this service for?”
  • “How do I get started?”
  • “What problem does this solve?”

The representative should respond clearly and consistently with your website.


Step 3 — Ask detailed questions

Next, try more specific questions:

  • pricing questions
  • feature explanations
  • process steps
  • onboarding instructions

This verifies whether your knowledge sources are sufficient.


Expected behaviour

The representative may:

  • ask clarification questions
  • provide concise explanations
  • decline topics outside its knowledge

This is normal.
The representative only uses the information you provided.


Unexpected behaviour

Review and adjust if the representative:

  • gives answers unrelated to your website
  • invents policies or pricing
  • produces generic or vague responses
  • contradicts your content

If this occurs, the knowledge or behaviour instructions need improvement.


Improving responses

If responses are incomplete or unclear:

  1. Add additional knowledge content
  2. Improve or clarify existing pages
  3. Adjust behaviour instructions

After making changes, test again.


When the representative is ready

The representative is ready when:

  • responses are relevant
  • explanations are clear
  • tone matches your business
  • a visitor would not feel confused

At this point, you can confidently allow public visitors to interact with it.
